Video description

The symphonies presented in this project have a somewhat peculiar

origin: they are created from the translation of graphic tracks into a sound track. The graphic tracks used were made by seismograms recorded during several recent earthquakes that took place around the world.
The seismograms are translated into musical sound by a sculptural instrument that is a cross between a seismograph and a player organ. The organ reads the notes by a system of holes punched through paper. To create the symphony the waves of the earthquake are adapted into musical scales for the instrument and
holes are arranged following the patterns of the seismogram. These holes are read by the organ and transformed into music.
