SpongeBob SquarePants is an American animated series that premiered in 1999. This cartoon has been received as being one of the most popular animated television programs behind The Simpsons. It is the first Nickelodeon low-budget animated series that managed to achieve such high popularity. Interestingly, SpongeBob is the first cartoon character in history to be exhibited at the Madame Tussauds wax museum in London.
The plot of almost all the episodes takes place underwater in Bikini Bottom city located in the Pacific Ocean. The population is almost entirely composed of various animals of marine life. SpongeBob works as a cook at the Krusty Krab restaurant where he has a lot of friends with whom he often gets into funny adventures. Among the other well-liked characters we can mention SpongeBob's best friend named Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Sandy Cheeks, Mr. Krabs and many others.
In the gaming industry, developers have used the SpongeBob character in many game genres. Some example genres where you might find SpongeBob are action, adventure, platform games, and so on. One final note, the game titled SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom (2003) was included in the list of the greatest games for the PlayStation.
