It is more fast-paced.
you. The light does not kill: everything it touches simply stops where
it stands. Hold the button and the beam narrows, slows down, and starts
to burn. While you are burning one thing, everything else keeps crawling
towards you.
That is the whole game, and it is one decision you make every second:
keep the light wide and let nothing take a step, or narrow it and
finally kill something, with your back open to all the rest.
The closer you let them come, the more the kill is worth, up to three
times over. Greed is paid out honestly here, and it kills honestly too.
Thirteen creatures, and each one reads the light its own way. The shade
only moves inside the beam. The siren hurries the others along while she
is lit. The spitter strikes your lamp from far out, and only fire knocks
the spit down.
Every round the tide brings a crowd at once, and every third tide brings
a Host of the Deep. Between rounds the world pauses and offers three of
twelve fires, three levels each. Fourteen kinds of weather rewrite the
rules for twenty seconds at a time. Amber earned in a run is spent for
good in the harbour: tempered glass, a taller tower, a fourth lamp.
