Deep Drill Idle is a mining idle game that plays itself. There is no home screen: the page loads and the bit is already turning. Every metre it cuts pays ore, ore is the only thing you spend, and there is no timer, no lives and no way to lose — the well keeps producing while you read the panel, and it keeps paying while the tab is closed. Twelve rig tracks are what you spend it on: a bigger bit for speed, coolant to cut the rock's hardness, a wider hopper for richness, a night shift that makes coming back tomorrow worth more. Ore is paid per metre rather than per second, so a hard layer is automatically both slower and poorer — and every one of the eight strata is harder and poorer than the one above it. The well decelerates rather than merely slowing, and that wall is the whole point. When it stops being worth it, seal the well. Depth, ore and every rig level go back to zero, and the deepest point you reached pays out in cores. Twelve permanent core nodes never reset: speed, hardness liners, an old-workings charter that fast-forwards the shallows you have already drilled, a foreman that buys levels for you while you are away. The payout is superlinear, so one deep run always beats two shallow ones.
The game is an idle mining and incremental progression game where a drill automatically digs deeper underground, collects ore, and earns resources for upgrades without requiring constant player input.
The drill starts working automatically as soon as the game loads. Spend the ore you collect on 12 upgrade tracks, including drilling speed, rock hardness reduction, ore richness, and offline productivity. When progress slows too much, seal the well to earn permanent cores and start a new run.
Yes! You can upgrade your drilling rig using ore and unlock 12 permanent core upgrades that remain after resetting your progress. These upgrades improve your future runs with benefits such as increased speed, easier drilling, faster progress through previously explored depths, and automatic purchases while you're away.
Yes! The game continues producing ore while you read its information panels or even when the browser tab is closed. You can return later to spend your resources, improve your rig, and decide when to begin another run.
Yes! The deeper you drill, the harder and less rewarding each layer becomes. Progress gradually slows until it may be better to seal the well and collect cores. Planning when to reset and investing in permanent upgrades are key to reaching greater depths in future runs.
